Hydrogen, a universal fitting for a clean future

Hydrogen has gained significant attention as a potential solution for achieving deep decarbonization across multiple sectors of the economy. It is important to note that while hydrogen offers many benefits for decarbonization, there are also challenges to address, such as the cost of production, infrastructure development, and ensuring the sustainability of hydrogen production methods.
As such it has the potential to be the fundamental link between the sciences, between sectors, and between cultures. In a time where there is a lot of talk about globalization and sustainability, it is important to monitor the tendencies towards homologation and selectivity.
Thus ,the principle of an equitable access to resources needs to be pursued as much as the centralization of interests needs to be opposed, and the sensible care for our common environment must be pursued maintaining economic prosperity and healthy societies.

In the panorama of these epochal developments, hydrogen technologies could become a bridge between the paradigms of industrialization and wellbeing, free market and free development, progress and solidity – just as it is a natural bridge between molecules and electrons.   Several cross-country Hydrogen Initiatives have been implemented, that bring to the fore the great spirit of collaboration that drives the transition to cleaner energy and the intrinsic complementarity and flexibility that characterizes the hydrogen technological sector.

The opening session of the 10th European Fuel Cells and HydrogenConference will be an occasion to explore these themes and take stock of the role hydrogen is taking up in a changing world, as an international currency of commodity and as a means for revitalizing the noblest expressions of human ingenuity, joint aspirations and pioneering spirit.

“Exploring similarities, synergies and perspectives of open electrochemical reactors for long duration energy storage”

Organized by the EERA Joint Programme on Energy Storage (EERA JPES)

The workshop would like to bring together experts in the field of these semi-open electrochemical cells to exchange on cutting-edge research and developments and to answers the following questions:
•          What are the perspectives for each or a combination of these technologies?
•          What are the scientific-technical challenges?
•          How sustainable are current concepts, and how can this be assessed?
•          Which application areas benefit from which power and storage scale?

The workshop is a full day event and will take place on Thursday 14th Sept 2023 at the Grand Hotel Quisisana on Capri, IT(the same location as EFCH2 2025).

More information and registration to this EERA JP ES event is available via the EERA JP ES website (here).

“Pushing the limits of performance and durability of fuel cells and electrolysers systems”

Organized by the H2020 Projects RUBY and REACTT

On route from laboratory research to commercial exploitation of fuel cells and electrolysers systems a range of new challenges emerge around maximizing performance and durability to make the technologies competitive on the market. EU H2020 projects RUBY and REACTT address these challenges by joining effort of leading EU researchers and developers in academia and industry across various disciplines such as electrochemistry, electronics, information technologies and data science.

RUBY and REACTT are twin projects dedicated to the design of rather general embedded solutions for Monitoring, Diagnosis, Prognosis and Control (MDPC) for on-field operation of SOFC and PEMFC systems (RUBY), and SOEC and rSOC stacks and systems (REACTT). The event will stress the holistic framework of the two projects resulting in innovative HW and SW platforms that combine in a unique way advanced optimizing control and diagnostic techniques (including e.g. the Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy). The intended use is envisaged in areas ranging from CHP, remote backups, hydrogen generation, grid-connected and stand-alone systems.

The event will deliver a comprehensive overview and the essential projects’ outcomes and their potential for the interested stakeholders and users from academia, industry and research. The topics to be addressed include:
- methodological approaches for reliable performance of both stacks and BoP components
- use of machine learning for advanced diagnostics
- stack and system diagnostics
- new solution to optimize performances
- the role of enabling technologies for implementation
- impact on efficiency, performance, reliability, lifetime and maintenance of SOFC, PEMFC and SOEC.

The workshop is a half-day event and will take place on Friday 15th Sept 2023 at the Grand Hotel Quisisana on Capri, IT (the same location as EFCH2 2023).

More information and registration to this workshop are available via the REACTT website (here).
